Heart Prep for Sunday, November 19th

This Sunday, we’re continuing in the Book of Titus and looking at why “Truth Matters.” And here the Apostle Paul lays out practical directions for Titus on how and why to encourage the people to endure in godliness (remember Crete was a notoriously ungodly place) and to encourage them to endure in hope of the coming of Christ.

And like he did in Timothy, Paul has special instructions for the older men, older women, younger men, and younger women in the church. All of which is to be in “accord with sound doctrine” (verse 1). As the old saying goes, Doctrine drives Duty, or you might say, Belief builds Behavior. And that is what we see in this chapter. But there’s something else as well. Paul gives us the motivation for holding fast to the right belief, and practicing the right behavior, even when surrounded by a culture that ridicules both.

So, that’s what we’ll be talking about this Sunday. What difference does knowing the truth actually make in our lives? And how is the church a lot like a little kid’s soccer team? Which should be interesting … see you soon, Dr. Dave
