Summer in the Psalms with Valley

This week we’re starting a new sermon series I’ve called “Summer in the Psalms.”  So far this year, we’ve looked at “Bringing Back the Wanderer” and “A Man Called Job.”  One dealt with the pain of lost relationships and the other examined how we respond to suffering.  For thousands of years, believers have responded to both of these demanding situations by turning to the Psalms.  The Psalms give us comfort, the Psalms show us God, and the Psalms teach us to pray.

Both painful relationships and painful lives show us how much we need the Lord and both circumstances drive us to prayer.  And that’s what we’re going to focus on this summer.  We’re going to look at thirteen psalms that address various needs, such as wisdom and rest, as well as various emotions, like anxiety and anger.  And each of these psalms is going to show us how to pray for those needs and concerns.

This Sunday, we’ll start by looking at Psalm 14 and “Prayer for our Foolishness.”  The Bible has much to say about wisdom and folly, and how both show up in the Christian life.  This is an unfamiliar psalm to most people, but it contains some awfully familiar verses.  We’ll look at what they mean and how we should pray.  It should be interesting, and hopefully helpful.  I’ll see you Sunday, Dr. Dave
