Heart Prep for Sunday, June 25th

Everyone cries.  Some people cry a lot.  Some people don’t.  Some people cry over the smallest of things.  Some people only cry when faced with great loss.  But everyone cries.  The Bible doesn’t have much to say about crying (in terms of shedding tears).  But it has a lot to say about weeping.  Probably because weeping involves overwhelming emotion, and because weeping is so common.

This week we’re coming to one of the hard Psalms.  We’ll be looking at “Prayer for our Tears” from Psalm 39.  The context for this psalm is somewhat debated, but it appears to be coming from a dark period in King David’s life.  He is bemoaning the brevity of life, and due to whatever is going on in his life, he ends the psalm by asking God to leave him alone.  It’s one of the few psalms that seems to end on a negative note.

Every single one of us has had those kinds of days when we wish God would either make things right or go away.  Right now.  We don’t want to wait on His timing.  We want an immediate answer on our schedule.  And when we don’t get it, the emotions can become overwhelming, and we weep.

So, what do we do when that happens?  More importantly, what is God doing in us, for us, and through us when that happens?  These are the questions King David helps us to answer.  And the answers might surprise you.  Should be interesting.  See you Sunday, Dr. Dave
