Heart Prep for Sunday, June 14th
As of this morning, we’re planning on meeting together again this Sunday at Harper Park! In light of that good news, we’re taking a two-week break from the Gospel of Mark to talk about re-gathering for worship on Sunday. And we’re going to focus in on two aspects of meeting together — worship and community.
Not to worry, we’ll pick Mark back up in a couple of weeks and finish the book on-time at the end of the summer. And then in September, we’ll start a new series on Misused Stories of the Bible. Back in 2017, we did a series on Misunderstood Verses that was quite well received, so this series will be a lot like that, but looking at a number of Bible stories that are often misused. And then for Advent, we’re going to an unlikely place — Unexpected Joy: A Christmas with Jonah.
This week’s pastoral letter will be on all the details of re-gathering for worship while continuing to offer worship online. We do have an updated plan for resuming worship which we’ll link to and we hope you’ll familiarize yourself with it. Please be on the lookout for that pastoral letter.
This Sunday, we’re going back to the Psalms and we’ll look at “Why We Worship Together” from Psalm 147. In particular, we’re going to look at the who, what, where, when, why, and how of being called to corporate worship. Next week, Rev. Wang will look at the communal and family aspects of why we gather together.
So, that’s what we’re doing for the next two Sundays, I hope you’ll find it an encouragement to your soul. I’m looking forward to seeing most of you in person. Dr. Dave
