Heart Prep for Sunday, July 16th

Last week we talked about how we use social media and how it affects us physically, emotionally, and spiritually.  But the problem is so much bigger.  We are suffering from a crushing information overload that’s causing a great deal of anxiety and stress.  And then there’s a corresponding inability to make decisions because there’s simply too much information to process.

What that means is that if you’re going to make it through life without making an absolute mess of things, you need something we hardly talk about today.  The secular culture talks a lot about science and reason, and religious communities largely talk about morality, but what we actually need is something that’s hardly talked about at all anymore. It’s not the same as knowledge, and it’s not the same as goodness; it’s wisdom.

We come to a unique Psalm this week.  The author of this Psalm knows something about wisdom.  And Psalm 90, our Psalm for this week, is the one and only Psalm written by Moses, which probably makes it the oldest Psalm of all.  Now, Moses has seen his share of ups and downs, good and bad, the righteous and the unrighteous. So we’ll see what he has to say in this “Prayer for our Wisdom.”

It’s a unique Psalm because Moses mostly talks about how short our lives are.  He doesn’t present wisdom in terms of not wasting the time we have, but in terms of learning from the time we are given.  How do you do that?  That’s what we’re going to look at this Sunday.  I expect it will be helpful.  See you there, Dr. Dave
