Heart Prep for Sunday, February 27th
Wow, what a week! I’ve been praying for the people of Ukraine today as war has been thrust upon them. I’ve been praying especially for the ERSU (Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine) which was started by PCA missionaries. The churches in Ukraine send more missionaries throughout Europe than any other country. The gospel is strong in that land. I’ve written to several missionaries more familiar with the situation in Ukraine and hope to have some specific prayer requests for you on Sunday.
The people of Ukraine have been waiting for “the coming war” for a number of years now. And I was struck by this as we will be looking at Deuteronomy 9 this Sunday, knowing that the Israelites have also been waiting for “the coming war” for a number of years. And just as today, there are more opinions on the matter than one person can keep track of. There are those who relish it and those who fear it. Those who think it will be easy and those who know it won’t be.
And in the midst of it all, both for God’s people in Deuteronomy and God’s people in Ukraine, the hope of a redeemer comes shining through. Our sure and certain hope, an anchor for our soul, is only found in Christ, who is the Redeemer. Hopefully, that will ring clearly in our ears this Sunday.
I would also encourage you to come to Sunday School this week as we’ll be looking at the last part of Romans 11. A sometimes hard-to-understand passage, that providentially, is remarkably applicable to today’s events.
Our theme for Deuteronomy is “Knowing God." What greater need could we have for such a time as this? I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, Dr. Dave
