Heart Prep for Sunday, December 17th

This Sunday, we’re in our third week of Advent and our third week in our new series on the life of Christ, Walking with Jesus: A Year with the Savior.  The first week we were in the Gospel of Luke where we saw the birth of Christ foretold, last week we waded through the genealogy of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, and now this week we turn to the Gospel of John … where we find something completely different.  We’ll be in John 1:1-5, learning about “Jesus the Word.”

So we’ve looked at prophecy, we’ve looked at history, but this week our focus is on eternity and divinity, and what difference that should make for our lives.  We will find that John writes very differently from the other gospel writers.  When John picks up his pen, it’s approximately AD 90 (give or take a few years).  He is the last living disciple.  All the other Apostles were gone.  And at this time in the history of the church, things were starting to get confusing.  People were questioning what Jesus said, what Jesus did, and who Jesus was.  And only one person can answer those questions from first-hand experience.  And so he does.

So here they are the words, the thoughts, the feelings of the last living disciple, the last person left alive who walked with Jesus.  Hear them well.  This Advent season, it’s time to come and sit at the feet of John the Elder and listen to what he has to say about the Lord.  And it’s remarkable.  See you Sunday, Dr. Dave
