Heart Prep for Sunday, December 10th
This Sunday, we’re in our second week of Advent and our second week in our new series on the life of Christ, Walking with Jesus: A Year with the Savior. As I told you last week, the story of Jesus moves with the feel of an epic drama. So this week we turn in anticipation to Matthew 1:1-17 … and we find a long genealogy.
And yes, at first glance, it seems really boring. What happened to the epic drama? Where’s the great story in this list of hard-to-pronounce Hebrew names? Why in the world would Matthew begin his gospel like this? I mean, what’s the point?
But we must remember that all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for us (2 Timothy 3:16). So that’s what we’ll be looking at this Sunday. How is the genealogy of Jesus inspired? How does it teach us? What does it teach us? How does it train us in righteousness? How does it make us complete?
Those are the questions we’ll be looking at this Sunday. And I think you’ll find it far more fascinating than it might first appear. See you then, Dr. Dave
P.S. Don’t forget that we have a Congregational Meeting this Sunday during Sunday School. We’ll look back at 2023 and look ahead to 2024. We only do one or two of these a year, so please plan on being there.
