Heart Prep for Sunday, August 25th

Have you ever met someone and, after spending some time with them, you thought, “they just know God much better than I do” or maybe it was “that guy prays at a whole different level than I do” or perhaps even “you know, she loves God in a way that I’ve never felt”?  I’ve met a few people like that and have always left them wondering how that nearness to God, knowledge of God, and love for God came about.  What happened that gave them a closer relationship with the Lord than most of us experience?

Well, that’s what we’re going to be talking about this week.  I’ll be finishing up our short series on “The Mission of the Church” and will be preaching on “The Upward Mission of the Church.”  And you may just dismiss this as “it’s just going to be about worship,” but that’s not exactly the case.  It’s actually going to be about loving God, not just as individuals, but as a church.

We’ll be dipping back into the Old Testament before we spend the new school year in the Gospel of Mark.  And specifically, we’ll be looking at Moses’ last sermon, found near the end of the Book of Deuteronomy.  This is essentially the Last Will and Testament of Moses, the great prophet and forerunner of Christ.

If you had one message left to give, what would you say?  Give that some thought over the next few days as we’re going to hear what Moses thought was most important.  I think you'll find it helpful.  See you Sunday, Dr. Dave

P.S.  Please be praying for everything starting up this fall — New Sunday School classes, Community Groups, Bible Studies, Joy Groups, Youth Group events, and so on and so forth — not to mention our 25th Anniversary Celebration on October 13th.  It’s going to be busy and we don’t want to wear people out, which will take a lot of discernment, so we’ll all need a lot of prayer.
