Heart Prep for Sunday, September 19th

This is the third week in our new series on the Book of Philippians entitled “Worthy of the Gospel.”  And this week we come to one of the Apostle Paul’s most famous sayings, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).  And that sounds really spiritual, but what does it mean, really?  Is Paul saying this because he’s imprisoned and facing execution?  Is he trying to encourage the Philippians … or is this going to frighten them, or confuse them?  It’s a short, eleven-word statement, however, whole books have been written on just this verse.  What does it mean?  And what do we do with it?

Well, what do you live for?  In this short life, we don’t know how long we will live.  What will you live for?  Writing under Roman guard, a chained man tells us about the meaning of life and the glory of death.  The Apostle Paul tells us about a life worth living and a death worth dying.  This is what living and dying are all about — Christ.  Living is about serving Christ; dying is about being with Christ.  Those are big, weighty topics and we’ll try to address those (and more) issues and questions this Sunday.  I hope you can be there!  See you then, Dr. Dave

P.S. Five of our Middle Schoolers are leaving for Potomac Modgnik today (Friday).  Pray that they have a great weekend learning about Jesus and having fun.  Pray for our four adult leaders to have great stamina too!
