This Sunday's Worship Materials can be found in the "Featured Sermon" below. We meet in person at Harper Park Middle School, and the service is also livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

Heart Prep for Sunday, September 10th

First of all, it’s good to have Frank Wang back from sabbatical. Especially since he’s leading a large group to Modgnik (kingdom spelled backwards) this weekend. Please pray for the 4 adults and 17 Middle School students who will be on this retreat! Pray that our Lord is gracious to them and draws them closer to Himself. Second, I know you’re praying for so many of our church families that are facing serious situations with kids, jobs, stress, and ongoing health concerns. The church is stronger as we remember to regularly pray for one another.

This Sunday, we’ll continue looking at “discipleship in action” from 1 Timothy 2. Now this contains one of the most controversial passages in all of scripture because, here, the Apostle Paul teaches on the roles of men and women in worship. A lot of people have a hard time with these verses because they make a number of false assumptions about them, about the church, about Paul, and on and on. It’s not hard to find critics of this passage.

However, I’m going to argue that this is an important passage because we want to foster biblical roles in the Church as it’s never safe for Christians to act unbiblically. If the Bible teaches us to do something, and we ignore that, we

can be sure that it will come back to haunt us because God doesn’t say things

for no reason in His Word. Therefore, it’s important because when biblical roles in the church are denied or altered or ignored, it almost always results in greater difficulty of one sort or another for families and marriages and children and churches where the teaching of the Scripture is not followed. Furthermore, it’s an important passage because this issue of the roles of men and women is very much at the heart of the cultural shift that we find ourselves in the midst of right now.

So, once again, Paul and Timothy are proving to be quite interesting. I hope to see you there, Dr. Dave
