Heart Prep for Sunday, November 8th
This week we’ll be going through another familiar story, except this one isn’t misused in how it’s interpreted, but more often than not, in how it’s applied. We’ll be looking at the well-known story of the woman caught in adultery in John 8:1-11. This, of course, is the story of a woman who’s used by the Pharisees to trap Jesus into breaking the Old Testament Law. It’s a story about shame and forgiveness. It’s a story about trying to shame someone else … and being shamed yourself. It’s a story about denying forgiveness to another … only to realize how much you need it yourself.
No one likes to talk about shame, it’s an emotion often accompanied by heavy baggage and a reminder of overwhelming sadness. The onset of shame usually means that baggage and that sadness have become public. Maybe it comes due to moral failure, relational chaos, the consequences of anger … and sometimes all of the above. And so this Sunday, we're going to look at an all-of-the-above situation, what it means for the shamed, how we’re supposed to respond, and where do we find ourselves in the story, and what difference Jesus makes. See you then, Dr. Dave
Reminder – If you still have any baby bottles, please fill them up and return them to the church office (or you can just write a check to support the Mosaic Pregnancy Care Center)!
