Heart Prep for the Fourth Sunday in Advent
This Sunday’s sermon will be the fourth and penultimate sermon in our advent series The Indescribable Gift. In this sermon, titled “Christ, Our Reconciliation” we will be looking into the importance that Jesus Christ has for the church as the one who reconciles between God and man.
The last three weeks’ passages have emphasized the identity of Jesus Christ as our Gospel, our King, and our God. This week’s passage, Colossians 1:19-23, will continue to speak to Christ’s identity, explaining that he is the one whose work brings about reconciliation between us and God. But it also speaks to our identities, both as sinners alienated from God and as people who are presented holy and blameless through the work of Christ.
Ultimately, this week’s passage answers two questions: “Who is Jesus?” and “Who does that make me?”. I think these are very important questions, and ones we ought to dwell on this week as we approach Christmas. My prayer is that on Sunday we’ll all truly see the indescribable importance of God’s gift of reconciliation through Jesus Christ. See you at church,
Anthony Clendenen (Intern)
