A Better Endurance (Hebrews 12:1-3)
Topic: Sermons Passage: Hebrews 12:1–12:3
Have you ever been somewhere and all of a sudden you’ve unexpectedly run into one of your heroes? That’s happened to me a few times, and when it does, a million things rush through your head. “Don’t do anything, just act cool, pretend like this stuff happens all the time.” Or maybe it was “Do something to impress him, grab the opportunity to show him your skills.” Or even “I can’t help it, I just want to meet you, I think you’re awesome.”
What would you do? In our Community Group the question was recently asked, “Who’s your favorite character from the Old Testament?” Mine was David, closely followed by Daniel. Who’s yours? So what do you do now if … instead of the sports star or celebrity showing up … it was actually David or Daniel? Or Abraham? Or Moses? Now … how will you react?
Well, to some degree, that’s the question that’s in front of us as we turn to Hebrews 12:1-3 and look at a passage that says “we’re surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.” Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve found that to be a little intimidating. It’s a little embarrassing to be frightened and then realize that just maybe Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are watching. Or to remember that Daniel faced Lions and little tiny spiders make you jump. Or to read that Moses faced down Pharoah and his armies and I have a hard enough time facing you guys. So what’s the point of having all these faithful Bible people put right in front of us? Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? Come this Sunday to learn more as we wrestle with the answers. Should be fun! See you then! Dr. Dave
Also this Sunday – come out to the church picnic and bid a fond farewell to Jeff & Alisha Lee as they follow a new call to RUF @ CNU.
