I hope that your Holy Week and Easter break were blessed! We got a double-dose of grandparents in the Dorst house, and that’s always a fun time.
Do you remember the first Captain America movie? Steve Rogers is a feisty little guy with a small, sickly body who is trying to to enlist as a soldier in the WWII war effort. But he’s not strong enough, so instead he’s brought into the secret Project Rebirth. He undergoes an experiment and suddenly his body is brought to its maximum capacity and he’s twice as big, full of muscles, and able to take on whole armies.
At the end of 1 Corinthians 15, Paul’s going to be teaching us about the super-bodies that await us after we undergo our own “Project Rebirth.” I hope you didn’t think that heaven would just be floating around with wings and harps, because that is a far cry from the Biblical picture of the New Heavens and the New Earth. Paul has previously answered the question of whether or not there was a resurrection from the dead (a resounding yes). Now he turns to the questions of how the dead will be raised and what the bodies will look like. There’s a lot to study with strong implications on our lives, so join me as we dive deep Sunday! -Dave
