Nobody likes being told how to live. Americans especially reserve the right to do whatever they please. So a passage like Titus 2:1-10 can sound very grating to our ears, as Paul gives specific ideal descriptions of how men and women in the church should act. "What do you mean I have to be self-controlled or submissive?" might spring up in our minds. But when we believe the Gospel (the "sound doctrine"), it very practically plays itself out in how we are to act. And Paul gives wonderful advice to those who would teach and lead for how to encourage their church members to live.
We're having a packed New Members Class this Saturday, so be praying for those who will be attending. And don't forget that Sunday morning we're having our annual congregational meeting where you get to see the 2015 budget and then vote on Dr. Dave's and my salaries. With the Christmas Choirs starting to rehearse Sunday and a baptism, it's a busy weekend! Looking forward to it, - Rev. Dorst
