The Rest of the King (Matthew 11:25-30)
Series: The King and His Kingdom! - A Series in the Book of Matthew Topic: Sermons Passage: Matthew 11:25–11:30
Wow -- it's hard to believe that summer's almost over! Where did the time go? Can't I get away and go to the beach one more time? For most of us, the everyday routine returns with Labor Day. And with that change in season comes two things we despise -- and yet we seem to subconsciously crave -- and that's hecticness and tiredness. We live in Northern Virginia, the land of the fast-paced lifestyle and where workaholism is the norm. Pretty soon, whenever you ask someone else how they're doing, what you'll get is a lot of one-word answers, "Tired" ... "Busy" ... "Stretched" ... and so on.
And Jesus has something to say to you in our passage for this week -- Matthew 11:25-30. He makes a promise of rest. Doesn't that just sound wonderful? "Rest" -- yes, I need more of that! But it's not an unconditional promise. Whaaat??? That's right, it's not unconditional. There's something for us to do in this passage. Come Sunday to find out just what that is.
I'm excited that the Adult Bible Class is going to look at what God has to teach us through the historical books of 1 & 2 Kings as we begin the new Sunday School year. This is a great time to start the habit of Sunday School. It's one of the best things you can do for your family. Looking forward to another great Sunday!
See you then, Dr. Dave
