Genesis 21 is the account of Isaac's birth and Ishmael's banishment. Isaac's name means "laughter" because both Abraham and Sarah laughed when they heard that God would be blessing them with a child when they were well past child-bearing years. Ishmael's laughter is different- he mocks Isaac at the feast that Abraham throws for him, and Sarah orders that he and his mother be sent away. God provides grace for both sons, though, as he blesses Abraham's family and protects Hagar and Ishmael in the wilderness.
