Heart Prep for Sunday, November 25th
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that you have a blessed Thanksgiving. Be sure to take some time to reflect on the ways that the Lord has blessed you this past year. And speaking of blessings, Jeremiah has been a blessing to us. I hope that all of you have been as impacted by it as your pastors have been. What a rich book that dives deep into the heart of idolaters to call them to repentance! And so this Sunday, we’ll be continuing our series on Jeremiah, this time in chapter 11. This will be the last sermon on Jeremiah this year because we’ll be taking a break from it during Advent. As we prepare to celebrate the coming of the King, we’ll be headed into John 1 to look at the Word that has become flesh.
But before we take a break, I think it’ll be good to collect ourselves and look back on our time in Jeremiah. This week’s passage highlights listening, or the lack of listening on the part of the Israelites. And so the question before us is, “Have we listened to Jeremiah over the past 3 months?” Have we listened to the Holy Spirit calling us out on our sin, our idolatry, and our wandering focus?
My hope is that we would respond to the Word of the Lord the way that Jeremiah did. With an “Amen” and a whole life commitment to God. Come Sunday to see how the Gospel frees us from our deafness and enables us to hear the Lord clearly and obey, that we might be covenant keepers rather than covenant breakers. Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks be to God that we have a savior in Jesus Christ who is with us always!
