This Sunday's Worship Materials can be found in the "Featured Sermon" below. We meet in person at Harper Park Middle School, and the service is also livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

Heart Prep for Sunday, November 15th

This week we’ll be going through another familiar story, commonly known as “The Parable of the Rich Fool.”  This is a story of a man who interrupted Jesus as He was teaching, demanding that He decide a dispute in this man’s favor.  Jesus gave what appears to be a blistering response, followed by this parable, which surely would have humiliated the man.

So, what subject so riled up Jesus that He taught in such a harsh way?  Well, most commentators and preachers will tell you that the subject is money, and more specifically, greed.  And they would be right, for Jesus mentions covetousness, abundance, possessions, and treasure in this text.

However, they would also be wrong, for Jesus is more concerned with what those things, and our attitudes about those things, are keeping you from.  And how your use of those things demonstrates what’s most important in your life.  Most people don’t like it when preachers talk about money.  It’s in these sermons that they say we’ve “gone to meddling.”  So we’re going to look at Luke 12:13-21 together and try to figure out what Jesus thinks should be most important in our lives.  Because sometimes ‘meddling’ is just what Jesus does.

Thanks to all who helped us get set up in the cafeteria last Sunday.  Despite the awkwardness of sitting at cafeteria tables, we had our highest in-person attendance yet (well, since covid started).  We’ll be meeting there again this Sunday and we’ll make the best of it.  See you there, Dr. Dave
