Heart Prep for Sunday, May 2nd

For those of you who have kids, are kids, or were kids – have you ever heard this complaint?  “He got more than me!”  Perhaps you were handing out candy … or dishing up ice cream?  Well, this week, you’re going to hear it again!  But there will be no candy.  Nor will there be ice cream.  Just land.  Lots and lots of land.

I know you would never think that any part of the Bible was boring (God forbid!).  But if, by some odd chance, you ever did think that (just go ahead and repent now) … you may have been thinking about our text for this Sunday, Joshua 13-19

Yes, this week we have seven chapters on the allotment of the Promised Land to the Twelve Tribes of Israel.  How will Joshua divide up the land?  Hard to imagine something more exciting.  Lists of boundaries and descriptions of desert geography, with some whining thrown in for good measure.

And yet … tucked away in all the mundane details are some gems to be mined (or candy, or ice cream, doesn’t matter – it’s just a metaphor for good stuff).  There’s a bunch of blessings that get handed out, a few concerns to be addressed, a couple of really cool surprises, and one magnificent old man.  It should be interesting.  See you Sunday!  Dr. Dave
