This Sunday's Worship Materials can be found in the "Featured Sermon" below. We meet in person at Harper Park Middle School, and the service is also livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

Heart Prep for Sunday, July 18th

Well, after that scintillating presentation on General Assembly last Sunday, we’re back to our regular schedule.  We’ll be looking at Revelation 19:11-21 during Sunday School and then during the worship service, we’ll be continuing our summer sermon series on the One Another commands of the New Testament.

This week, we’re looking at 1 Corinthians 12:21-26, with special attention given to verse 25 and the phrase, “have the same care for one another.”  Well, obviously that means you now have to volunteer for everything, right?  The cynical side of me wants to answer, “Why Yes, Yes it does!”  And while we always need volunteers, sadly (for me), that’s not what it means.  And it doesn’t even mean that you have to sign up to bring meals to the next person with a broken leg, foot, ankle, whatever (although bringing meals to others is a caring thing).

What the Apostle Paul was writing about was the person who felt superior because they were more successful, more fit, more intelligent, more driven, or better looking than other people in the church.  We live in a world that’s a lot like Corinth.  Our society prizes those who achieve (and achievement is not a bad thing), but when the high achiever looks down on other people in the church because they’re not quite as successful, not quite as fit, not quite as intelligent, not quite as driven, or not quite as good looking … well then, the Apostle Paul would like to sit down and have a friendly chat with you.

And that’s what this text is.  A friendly chat with some folks in the church who don’t / won’t / can’t see how they’re mistreating other people.  And Paul wants us to see how Jesus sees those people.  So this Sunday, we’re going to open our eyes to each other — because we’re all in this together!  See you then, Dr. Dave

PS – Pray for Frisbee Frank Wang’s surgery tomorrow to repair his torn Achilles’ tendon.  It will be mid-morning on Thursday.  I’ll let you know how it goes.
