Heart Prep for Sunday, July 10th

Well, we’re a month into our summer series on Biblical Priorities called “First Things First.”  So far, we’ve looked at First Inquire, First Recognize, First Listen, and First Understand.  And today we’ve come to what may be the most well-known first command of them all … First Seek … which we find in Matthew 6:33, But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Jesus is addressing the issue of anxiety in everyday life and gives us this command to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.  But to be honest, that sounds easier said than done.  After all, we live in a world of anxiety today.  Our society, our culture, markets anxiety!   Our individual lives are filled with anxiety.  Everyone is anxious about something.  Everyone has to face anxiety in one form or another, in one way or another.  It’s common to life.

So how can Jesus command us not to be anxious, but instead, to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness?  Well, that’s what we’re going to explore this Sunday.  What can we do to be less anxious … and more righteous?  And why is seeking the kingdom the answer to those challenges?  And why is this something we actually need?  Hopefully, we’ll come up with some good answers to those questions on Sunday.  See you then, Dr. Dave

P.S. – Just a reminder, for those who knew Jerry German, that his funeral will be this Tuesday, 11 am, at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg.  The committal service (burial) will immediately follow at Hillsboro Cemetery.  Afterward, the family will host a reception for all guests.  There will be directions available at the funeral home.
