Heart Prep for Sunday, February 5th

This week we’re starting a new sermon series which I’ve entitled, “A Man Called Job.”  We’ll be looking at the Book of Job for the next four months and grappling with many of the big questions of life — Why is there suffering?  Why do bad things happen to good people?  Why do bad things happen to me?  How do you explain the presence of evil?  Is God really sovereign?  Why are there so many things in life that seem to be so unfair?

Job forces us to ask questions which we’re a little scared to get the answers for.  And that’s because Job is a staggeringly honest book.  It is a book that knows what people actually say and think — not just what they say publicly, but what they say behind closed doors and in whispers, and it knows what we say in our tears.  If we listen to it carefully, Job will touch us, trouble us, and unsettle us at a deep level.  But in the end, it will require that the real you relate to the real God.  And while that may be hard, it will also be good.  So, there’s a lot going on in this book.  And my prayer for this series is that it will give you a resilient faith.  Join me in that prayer.  I’ll see you Sunday, Dr. Dave
