Heart Prep for Sunday, August 26th

The Book of James is extremely practical. It goes over very specific, very concrete aspects of practical Christian living.  This Sunday, we'll be finishing our series on James, entitled "We Walk in Wisdom."   And we'll be looking at James 5:13-20 on having "Wisdom in Prayer."  It tells us two things.  It tells us about the power of prayer in general, and then it tells us about the power of prayer for healing in particular.

First, it’s very clear James is trying to impress upon us that prayer makes a dent in the world.  It makes a dent on our church community .  And it makes a dent on our personal lives.  It says, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”  That means it has effects. It means it has an effect on us.  It has an effect on our church.  And it has an effect on the world.  It really does change things.

This passage also ends our study of James.  We get to the very end of the book and James gives us two more tools that we need to have patience, to pray, to have community, and to demonstrate that we really believe all this stuff about the Gospel.  So we'll be talking about all these things this Sunday.  I hope the Book of James has encouraged you, challenged you, and built your faith.   Next stop -- the Prophet Jeremiah.  See you Sunday.  Dr. Dave

* Community Groups are starting up.  Everyone needs to sign up (even if you were signed up last year).  James taught us a lot about community, these groups are where we get to take all that we've learned and put it into practice.

** Also, we'll be announcing some changes to Children's Church that we hope will improve the experience for everyone.
