This Sunday's Worship Materials can be found in the "Featured Sermon" below. We meet in person at Harper Park Middle School, and the service is also livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

Heart Prep for Sunday, April 19th

This week, we’re back on schedule in The Gospel of Mark.  We jumped around the last few weeks to have the right texts for Palm Sunday and Easter, but now we’re back in Mark 9:14-29.  If you remember, the last passage we studied in Mark 9 was The Transfiguration, which was a literal “mountaintop experience.”  But now the disciples have come down off the mountain, only to be met by a distraught father and his demon-possessed son.  And everyone has doubts.  The disciples have doubts because they were unable to cast out the demon.  The father has doubts because his son still isn’t healed.  And Jesus has to answer both groups.

So, that’s the setting.  But let me ask you a question or three.  Do you believe that God is sovereign over your troubles?  Or, when you are in the midst of your troubles do you wonder if your troubles are bigger than God?  And if you don't wonder if your troubles are bigger than God, do you act like they are?  I think this passage has something to teach us about that very struggle and I think it's a struggle that almost all of us have from time to time.  We all have some measure of faith … and we all have some doubts.  But when is doubt the same as unbelief?  That’s the question we’ll be answering this Sunday.

Once again, I’ll be coming to you via video on YouTube.  On Saturday we’ll post all the links and everything you need to worship on Sunday at our website – www.potomachills.org – just click on the “latest sermon” link.  I hope these messages on video have been both encouraging and enlightening for you.  Thanks to those who wrote me after the Easter message (keep ‘em coming!), you have no idea how much that blesses me.

This Sunday we have two special events going on — First, we’re starting a Teen Sunday School Class on Zoom (Frank Wang will send the students the information needed to connect.  Although, if there’s any group in our church that has no problem getting online, it’s our teens).  Second, during the Adult Sunday School Class, we’re taking a break from Luke this week to spend time in prayer.  I hope to see many of you there.  Even though we’re online, it’s still going to be a great day to worship the risen Christ.  So, let’s do it together, even while apart.  Dr. Dave
