Heart Prep for Sunday, July 14th

One of our children has not seen many of the Marvel movies, so her siblings and I are guiding her through the movies. The big question (which is also the question for those wanting to catch up on the Star Wars films) is: do you watch them by release date or by chronological order? We've decided to go chronologically, so we've started with the first Captain America movie set in the 1940s.
The book of Jeremiah does not necessarily stick to a chronological order, and what's interesting is that, while we still have 9 chapters in our sermon series on the book, this Sunday's chapter (44) is the last action and the last words of Jeremiah's life. As we saw in last week's text, many of the remnant that had remained in Jerusalem after the exile had fled to Egypt under the delusion that they'd be safer there. But Jeremiah tells them that not only are they not safe there, but that God still sees them in Egypt and still feels provoked to anger by their sin, particularly their worship of the "queen of heaven." If they thought they were doing a "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" kinda thing, they had another think coming! And if Jeremiah thought that they would listen and change, unlike his entire career of prophetic rebukes being ignored, he had another think coming too!
We'll be without the Carolina Missions Team this Sunday, so I expect everybody else who is in town to show up! We'll be hearing from one of our supported missionaries (Cayla Sherrell at JMU's RUF) and worshipping our great and awesome King! See you then, -Dave
