The Link Between Grace and Unity (Ephesians 4:1-6)

May 19, 2019 Speaker: Rev. Chris Hutchinson Series: Guest Speakers

Topic: Sermons Passage: Ephesians 4:1–6

Well, this week we have the privilege of hearing from Rev. Chris Hutchinson, Pastor of Grace Covenant PCA in Blacksburg, Virginia.  Over the years, we’ve had a number of folks who’ve passed through his church and have blessed ours.  You may recognize Chris as he’s visited our church every year for about a decade now.  Chris will be speaking at our Officer Retreat this weekend (pray for that!) and is the author of Rediscovering Humility: Why the Way Up is Down.

Chris will be preaching on Ephesians 4:1-6, “The Link Between Grace & Unity.”  This passage tells us that we should be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”  One of the major goals for the unity of the church is that we would find our unity in what we believe about Christ.  And one of the major goals for the peace of the church is that we would be able to work together — even though we're all so different, with different gifts, different ages, different backgrounds, well, pretty much different everything.

So this is a passage about what it takes to work for unity and peace at the same time.  Sounds easy enough, but in reality, it's way harder than it sounds and takes a lot of intentional effort.  The unity and peace of the church are hard issues to address, but they're really important, immensely practical, and never go away.  So learning what it takes to address these issues will help us see how the Gospel works in the life of our church.  I think the Apostle Paul wants us to understand that having a healthy church is worth a great deal of our effort and should occupy a large percentage of our prayers!  So pray now and come on Sunday!  It should be a great day, see you there!
