A Sure Word of Glory (Luke 9:28-36)

May 20, 2018 Speaker: Rev. Nick Batzig Series: Guest Speakers

Topic: Sermons Passage: Mark 9:28–36

This Sunday, we have the unique opportunity to hear from Rev. Nick Batzig, who will be leading our officer retreat this weekend.  I've visited Nick's church and he's a wonderful preacher.  Nick is the Pastor of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Richmond Hill, Georgia.  A native Georgian, Nick attended Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in South Carolina where he received his M.Div. Degree.  After interning at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Nick planted New Covenant.  Nick is married to Anna and they have three sons, Micah, Elijah, and Judah.  Nick has written numerous articles for Tabletalk Magazine, the Christward Collective, Reformation 21 and Christianity.com.  He is published in Jonathan Edwards and Scotland (Dunedin, 2011) and the forthcoming Jonathan Edwards for the Church (EP Publishing).  Nick is the host of  East of Eden: The Biblical and Systematic Theology of Jonathan Edwards.  Nick writes at FeedingonChrist.com and HeReadsTruth.com. He also writes for and serves as the editor of the Christward Collective and Reformation 21 – sites of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals.

As you heard last Sunday, we're able to rejoice with Caleb & Jenn Weitz in the birth of their daughter Dayna.  Joanne and I were able to visit with them and are happy to report that Dayna is a beautiful little girl (I got to hold her!  So tiny!).  This is the child that we have been praying for the last five years, and she will be a great blessing to her family and our church.  However, you need to know that Dayna has tested positive for Down Syndrome.  This in no way diminishes who she is as a person, nor should it diminish our joy in her arrival.  Yet, I know that people often don't know what to say in a situation like this, and despite the best of intentions, sometimes people say the wrong thing.  We surely don't want that to happen to much loved members of our church family, so here's two links to articles on what to say and what not to say.  I hope these will help us all out --

For more information on Down Syndrome go to the National Down Syndrome Society's website at https://www.ndss.org/about-down-syndrome/down-syndrome/

As you know, Jenny Nelson heads up our meals ministry and she will be coordinating meals for the Weitz's.  They have a lot of family and other friends in the area so our meal schedule may be a little more spread out than normal.

At some point, Caleb & Jenn are going to write their own story about Dayna, how they're doing, and what they're learning.  I'm sure it will contain a thank you of their own.  When they're ready, they will post it on Jenn's blog, http://unexpectedrealities.com...

See you Sunday, it's going to be a great day!  Dr. Dave
