Moving from Consumer to Companion (Exodus 20:14)
Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: Movements of Grace - A series on the Ten Commandments Topic: Sermons Passage: Exodus 20:14
Hey all, this week we're continuing our summer series on The Ten Commandments and we've gotten to the Seventh Commandment. Now, for most Americans today, this is considered the big one. No Adultery. And many Americans seem to think this is not only the biggest commandment (it's not, that's the 1st Commandment), but it's also the hardest one to keep (it's not, again, that's the 1st Commandment). In fact, many people think this commandment is downright impossible. They don't get it. They don't like it. They don't understand it. And therefore, they don't get, like, or understand Christians either.
So, how do we be faithful to what the Bible teaches when it seems so hard? How do we demonstrate the relevance of this command to a watching world? And how does our obedience effect our witness to that world? Those are some big questions in a world that views human sexuality as a consumer product and thinks that companionship has more to do with friendship than marriage. But we're going to try and tackle those issues this Sunday. And, make no mistake, the issues of human sexuality are the primary issues driving our culture today. And the culture seems to moving away from Biblical Christianity as a result. So that's a lot to cover. We're probably not going to get to all of it in one sermon. But, I suspect that this commandment will get your attention. Hopefully, it will also make us stop and think, maybe even pray. Should be interesting. See you Sunday, Dr. Dave
