Moving from Profanity to Praise (Exodus 20:7)

Hey all, this week we’re continuing our summer series on The Ten Commandments and we’ve gotten up to the Third Commandment, which (as I’m sure you know) is about not talking the Lord’s Name in vain.  This is one of the most well-known and least understood commandments of all.  Most people think it’s means not to curse using the Lord’s Name, and while that’s true, it’s a pretty superficial understanding of the commandment. 

So, we’re going to look at the problem of profanity (a much broader topic than merely cursing) and how we should move towards praise (also a much broader topic than simply singing and praying).  And then we’re going to ask why does God even care about this?  After all, it’s just words, isn’t it?  And the answer to that is yes and no.   Yes, it’s about words, but words reveal what’s in our hearts, so they’re important.  And no, because when God’s name is involved, it’s about much more than words.  Should be interesting.  And should make us stop and think.  See you Sunday, Dr. Dave
