What Child is This? (Ruth 4:13-18)

December 27, 2015 Speaker: Rev. Dave Dorst Series: Christmas in Ruth! - Advent 2015

Topic: Sermons Passage: Ruth 4:13–18

Four days before we wrap up the whole year, we wrap up the book of Ruth this Sunday. Moved from tears to toil to trust and then to triumph, Ruth and Naomi were two ordinary people who were loved by an extraordinary God. John Piper, in his book A Sweet and Bitter Providence (pp. 105-106), sums up that, “the book of Ruth was written… to help us trust God’s grace when the clouds are so thick that we can’t see the road, let alone the signs on the side. Again and again in this book, God is at work in the setbacks of Naomi. When she lost her husband and sons, God gave her Ruth. When she could think of no kinsman to raise up offspring for the family, God gave her Boaz. When barren Ruth married Boaz, God gave the child. The life of the godly is not a straight line to glory, but God sees that they get there.”

Merry Christmas, everyone! Our prayer is that you and your family experience the beauty and truth of Christ’s incarnation in a deep and fresh way this year. We’ll see you at the Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service. Then don’t shoot your eye out with your new Daisy Red Rider BB Gun Christmas day
