A Better Blood (Hebrews 9:11-28)

April 19, 2015 Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: Jesus Is Better - A Series on the Book of Hebrews

Topic: Sermons Passage: Hebrews 9:11–9:28

How many of you are grossed out by blood? In my family, when someone got hurt and there was blood (a rare occasion to be sure), there were kids who looked like they were going to pass out and other kids who elbowed you out of the way to get a closer look. I’ll let you try to figure out who was who. Even though blood is one of the most common things (we’re all filled with it!) and one of the most necessary things (can’t live without it!), everyone reacts differently when they actually see it. And for those of you who get queasy, Ancient Israel would have been a tough place to live.

In the Old Testament, we have the Ceremonial Law and the Sacrificial System, which, obviously, involved sacrifices. Lots and lots of sacrifices. And therefore, lots and lots of blood. And this is what we’ll be talking about Sunday morning as we look at our passage for this week, Hebrews 9:11-28, which I’ve entitled “A Better Blood.” We’ll be looking at the questions … Why is blood important? Why is Jesus’ blood better? What’s the purpose of all this? And what difference does it make for us today? Come this Sunday to learn more about why Jesus is Better! See you then! Dr. Dave
