The Love of the Forsaken King (Matthew 27:45-56)
Speaker: Rev. Tom Rubino Series: The King and His Kingdom! - A Series in the Book of Matthew Topic: Sermons Passage: Matthew 27:45–27:56
Most times, when we ponder how Christ suffered for those he came to save, we tend to focus on the physical and emotional suffering he experienced. And there was a lot of it! Between beatings and scourgings, mocking and insults, and finally the painful process of crucifixion, Jesus experienced more pain than we can possibly imagine.
But the reality was that the worst was yet to come. In Gethsemane Jesus had prayed: "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me." Now, in our passage this week, Jesus is about to drink from the dregs of that very cup he pleaded for the Father to take away. The question is: "What could possibly be worse that what Jesus had already endured?"
We'll be talking about this question on Sunday... and about how the answer should stir our hearts to deeper affection for our forsaken King! See you then.
