The Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13)

July 13, 2014 Speaker: Rev. Dave Dorst Series: The King and His Kingdom! - A Series in the Book of Matthew

Topic: Sermons Passage: Matthew 25:1–25:13

I am so glad to be back from the Bahamas Mission Trip. If you haven’t seen the pictures on Facebook, the team will be giving a presentation this coming Sunday during the worship service. It was a great trip that we’re hoping to return to next summer!

I’m excited to be the Interim Pastor while Dr. Dave is away on Sabbatical. Having worked side-by-side with him for over 12 years, I’m daunted by the big shoes that I’m filling and the many strong gifts that Dave uses to pastor this church. However, I’m also confident that we have wonderful elders, deacons and assistant pastors, and that all you members will step up to help things run smoothly. Andrea Pogany has already stepped up to take on some big administrative tasks and she’s doing a great job; thank you, Andrea!

July and August are the months when the most people visit the church - how great would it be to have every member of the church looking to befriend new folks, inviting them out for lunch after church or answering their questions about the church or the area (if they’re new in town)?

This Sunday’s Sermon: Having been part of a lot of weddings (as a groom, a groomsman, a musician and an officiate), I’ve seen and heard of a lot of things that can go wrong during ceremonies. (Email me if you know any great stories about wedding disasters!) Jesus’ parable in the beginning of Matthew 25 that I’ll be preaching on this Sunday is about a wedding ceremony with a big problem. It’s a problem that allows us to understand a big problem we have in our spiritual lives. I look forward to exploring the passage together.
