The King's Triumphal Entry (Matthew 21:1-11)
Series: The King and His Kingdom! - A Series in the Book of Matthew Topic: 1 Passage: Matthew 21:1–21:11
This week we celebrate Palm Sunday. Matthew 21 begins with the familiar story of Jesus' Triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We have cheers, hosannas, waving palms, and all the honor that comes with what everyone expected to be a King's Coronation. And yet, in a matter of days, the cheers turned to jeers, the hosannas turned to hatred, and the waving palms became slapping hands. The Triumphal Entry doesn't lead us to a Coronation, but rather to a Crucifixion.
And while we have the benefit of years of 20/20 hindsight, Jesus knew what was coming. And He came anyway. That's amazing. And in coming He announces His Kingship, even knowing what was waiting for Him. So how do we respond to His Kingship? Does our loyalty and faithfulness to Christ waver and falter like the crowd? I'm sure that sometimes it does. But how does Jesus want us to react and respond to this announcement of His Kingship? Come Sunday and we'll talk more about following Jesus! I'm looking forward to it ... and I hope you are too!
See you then, Dr. Dave
(and yes, there will be palms)
