The Mercy of the King (Matthew 20:29-34)
Series: The King and His Kingdom! - A Series in the Book of Matthew Topic: 1 Passage: Matthew 20:29–20:34
Is Spring finally here? Are you afraid to hold out hope for actual warm weather? Maybe it's just another April Fool's joke with cold and snow making another visit in the near future. When it's been a long winter, it's a little hard to hope for Spring? When it's been a long season of isolation, it's a little hard to hope for relationships? When it's been a long season of winter depression, it's a little hard to hope for joy and smiles? When it's been a long season of suffering, it's a little hard to hope for health?
To some degree, that's the situation in our passage this week, Matthew 20:29-34, where we see two blind men calling out to Jesus. They're asking Jesus for mercy ... and they ask Him repeatedly. Maybe in our long seasons -- whether it's isolation, depression, suffering, or simply winter -- we can take a page out of their playbook and ask Jesus for mercy ... repeatedly. I'm guessing this morning that many of us need to do just that -- ask Jesus for mercy! I'm pretty sure that almost everyone can think of one area in their life, or in the life of their family and friends, that could really use the mercy of Christ! Come Sunday and we'll talk more about asking Jesus! I'm looking forward to it ... and I hope you are too!
See you then, Dr. Dave
