So, I hear there's a big game this Sunday. People are making plans, breaking their normal routine, spending lots of money, and going to great lengths to make it a really fun night. Some are even suggesting we make Super Bowl Sunday a national holiday - though they really want Monday morning off so they can sleep in. But in the midst of all this celebration, there are people who simply don't care about the game. Some don't care because they don't like football and that's okay. But many don't care because the concerns of this life, and the needs of their family, are just overwhelming. And they simply don't have the time and energy to care about football.
I think the father in our passage this week, Matthew 17:14-20, would be one of those people. He doesn't care what's going on around him. He doesn't care about the big events, the big celebrations, or who's going to have the best commercials on Sunday night. His son is a mess -- hurting physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And it doesn't seem that anyone can help him out. Until Jesus comes along. And He gives us another important lesson about faith. What's the lesson? Come Sunday to find out. See you then! Dr. Dave
