Dr. Dave, who, as was announced Sunday, is out for a few weeks to recharge, has a philosophy that ruling elders ought to preach from time to time. I think one reason he does this is so that we maintain an appreciation for the responsibility and difficulty of bringing the Word of God to the people of God week after week. So, you have me this week, and Mark Rist next week.
We are in Matthew 10 where we have seen Jesus choose his 12 particular disciples (v. 1 - 4) and commission them (v. 5 - 15) to go out to Israel for him. But in this week's text (v. 16 - 23), Jesus warns them (and us) of difficulties and opposition which they/we will encounter.
The kingdom is advancing into hostile territory. However, Jesus equips us for the task and encourages us to endure to the end. Hopefully, you all can endure to the end of my sermon, too.
See you on Sunday. - Frank
