As we start our sermon series on the book of Genesis, we see that Moses, the author, does not spend time trying to prove God's existence. He is just there- "In the beginning, God...", assumed to be in control of everything. God is the only one who can truly create- "ex nihilo" from nothing. The first two verses of Genesis tell us a lot, even laying the groundwork for the Trinity. This sermon gives us the framework of the entire book of Genesis- both the Primeval and Patriarchal History sections, as well as the understanding that salvation was always by grace and faith.
