"For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"  Esther 4:14 (ESV)

Esther was a young woman with a difficult decision.  She had lived her entire life as an exile in a foreign land, and now the very existence of her people was threatened by her husband, the King of Persia.  Would she step up and reveal her true identity to the king risking her life to save her fellow exiles?  Like Esther, we live in a foreign land hostile to the Good News of Jesus Christ.  Our "home", Loudoun County, continues to see dramatic population growth accompanied by greater ethnic diverstiy.  This makes our community an exciting place to live, but it is also one of the most unchurched places in America with only 42% of the population claiming any religious affiliation.(1)

God calls us to be different - to step out in faith and show the world that He exists... that He loves His people... and that He provided the only way to know Him through His son, Jesus Christ.  Romans 10:14 says,

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?"

Reaching the lost and brokenhearted for the Lord is our responsibility.  If God brought Esther to Persia to save His people, then like Esther, God has raised us up and put us here for that very same purpose.

As our church family continues to grow, we're confronted with needs to expand our existing staff and provide space for our ministries; including all aspects of worship, fellowship, learning, service and outreach.  We have been blessed with an increasing number of new people coming to our church.  We hope to reach even more in the years to come!  Our vision is to expand our ministries and take on new ministries to effectively apply the talent and gifts of our ever-increasing membership to seek after those in Loudoun County who do not attend church.

Yet "For Such a Time as This" is more than a fundraising campaign.  It is a time to remember, learn, and be challenged.  There will be three distinct elements to the campaign:

First, we want to be reminded of God's faithfulness to us in the past.  Through the Gospel of grace, the Lord has brought new converts, rendered astonishing changes in people's lives and extended the outreach of Christ in our community and across the globe.  We have seen many people come to Potomac Hills recently and we want to share our story with them.

Second, we want to better appropriate God's love, grace and mercy to us in the present.  Through an intensive study of the Book of Esther we want God to stretch our faith.  By taking a coordinated approach to the sermon series, a small group study guide, and a devotional prayer guide, we want to take a focused time this fall- together as a church family- to encourage spiritual growth.

Third, we want to exercise great hope in what God will do in our future.  As our congregation grows, we will need greater resources to continue doing what God has called us to do.  New opportunities will require more people (both staff and volunteers) and larger facilities in order to accommodate our growth and desire to meet regularly outside of Sunday morning worship.  We will be asking people to make a financial commitment to grow the ministries of Potomac Hills.  How much we receive will determine what we're able to do in terms of expanded ministry, staff and facilities.

What are we asking of people?
