By Faith, He Left (Exodus 2:11-22)

September 20, 2015 Speaker: Rev. Dave Dorst Series: Exodus - The Glory of the Lord

Topic: Sermons Passage: Exodus 2:11–22

School is well under way, football season has started off well (for most teams), it’s starting to feel like autumn, and it’s wedding season. Which is a subtle transition to this Sunday’s sermon text where Moses gets married. Wait, wasn’t he just a baby floating down the Nile in last week’s text and now he’s getting married? Why yes, he was. But just like the Gospels skip over Jesus’ growing-up years, Exodus jumps to when Moses is 40 years old. And before he gets married, he has to flee for his life away from Egypt because Pharaoh is trying to kill him for his murder of an Egyptian slave master. It’s a fascinating turn of events that foreshadows a lot of what Moses will be called to do later in the story, and shows us his God-given desire for justice and protecting the weak.

We’re looking forward to another Newcomers Lunch this Sunday, so if you’re new and reading this, I hope you can come to my house after church. Most of the Community Groups have started well; there’s still room if you have put off joining one. And while we’re getting closer to hiring a youth pastor, the youth ministry leaders will be kicking off Sunday Large Group meetings next week. There’s a lot going on, and I praise God for a church that loves Him, His word, and one another so well! See you Sunday, -Dave
