A Better Maturity (Hebrews 5:11-6:12)

March 15, 2015 Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: Jesus Is Better - A Series on the Book of Hebrews

Topic: Sermons Passage: Hebrews 5:11–6:12

Have you ever met someone who claimed to be a Christian, but refused to live in such a way that you never doubted his faith? In fact, sometimes it seems like people are intentionally choosing to live in such a way to cause you to doubt, to make you wonder or at least roll your eyes, to get you to worry about them, or perhaps even go to them to ask “What’s going on? You claim to be a Christian but you’re doing all this stuff that’s blatantly ungodly. How can you do that?” And maybe they give you a good answer … and maybe they don’t. And maybe they respond with repentance … or maybe they respond with ridicule or denial. Either way, it’s a hard situation.

Our passage for this week, Hebrews 5:11-6:12, is written for just this type of situation. Actually, it’s written to people on both sides of this situation. It’s written to both you and your friend. It’s trying to get all of us to answer the question, “In light of the good news that Jesus is our Great High Priest, how will you respond?” Are you completely writing Him off? Are you merely not taking Him seriously? Or are you wisely following Him? Those are the questions we’ll be wrestling with this Sunday. I hope to see you there! Dr. Dave
