A Better Priest (Hebrews 4:14-5:10)

March 8, 2015 Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: Jesus Is Better - A Series on the Book of Hebrews

Topic: Sermons Passage: Hebrews 4:14–5:10

You remember that commercial that showed someone’s really embarrassing moment and the tag line was “Want to Get Away?” Well, hopefully you haven’t had any really embarrassing moments lately, but I think we’ve all had times where we wanted to get away. Just drop everything and leave. Perhaps you screwed up, you can’t figure out what happened, you don’t know how to explain it, what to do about it, or where to go with it? Perhaps you feel shame, or guilt, or anger, or confusion, or simply sadness. And because of those swirling emotions, it’s hard to engage with God. You need a Priest.

A Priest is someone who stands between you and God. A Priest intercedes for you before the throne of God. A Priest makes provision for your sin … yes, even that one. The Scriptures tell us that you have that Priest. And He’s no ordinary Priest. His name is Jesus and Hebrews 4:14-5:10 is the passage that explains how He is our Great High Priest. Your Great High Priest. And my Great High Priest. He’s exactly what we need. And that’s good news. So come this Sunday to be encouraged by Jesus. See you then, Dr. Dave
