The Difficulty of the Kingdom (Matthew 19:13-22)

March 16, 2014 Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: The King and His Kingdom! - A Series in the Book of Matthew

Topic: Sermons Passage: Matthew 19:13–19:22

Well, Forbes Magazine has tagged us again. They recently listed (again) Loudoun County as the wealthiest county in the United States. So that makes us the wealthiest county in the wealthiest country in the history of the world. And all this time, you had no idea you were so rich. Well, apparently you are! Spend it wisely!

Even if you didn't know you were rich (or didn't think you were rich, or don't feel like you're rich, or actually aren't really rich at all), there was a man in the Gospel of Matthew who was rich. And he knew it. He was the Rich Young Ruler ... and he's found in our text for this week, Matthew 19:13-30.

Not only does the Rich Young Ruler own a lot of stuff (probably not books, you know, other stuff); it turns out he was something of a perfectionist too. So he has it all, he knows it all, and he can do it all (triple-threat guy!), so why bother coming to Jesus at all? And when He does, what does Jesus say to this rich, smart, can-do guy? It's very interesting how Jesus responds to this man. And it's even more interesting to see how the disciples respond to Jesus! Have I got your curiosity up? Come Sunday to find out more! (though it's okay to read ahead!)

See you then, Dr. Dave
