The Mission of the King (Matthew 10:5-15)

July 21, 2013 Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: The King and His Kingdom! - A Series in the Book of Matthew

Topic: Sermons Passage: Matthew 10:5–10:15

So ... I was really tempted to write the same thing as last week to see if anyone's bothering to read this. But ... that would be mean. So I didn't do it. But maybe someday ...

This week we're still in Matthew 10 where Jesus sends out the Apostles. And as He's commissioning them to go, Jesus gives them a mission and gives them "the ground rules" for this mission. Jesus instructed the disciples to “proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 10:7). Clearly, Jesus was preaching the good news that through Him, God’s reign - the kingdom of God - has come into the world. Jesus and the apostles continually emphasized the “good news of the kingdom,” the announcement that God’s long awaited Messianic reign had finally broken into our world in a new and decisive way to restore God’s lost creation. And so the big question is, "If that was their mission, what's our mission?" You'll have to come Sunday to find out!

Keep praying for our NYC Missions Team this week as they serve to rebuild a church in New York City after the destruction of Hurricane Sandy. I'm sure they would appreciate all the prayer they can get!

Last, but not least, the Adult Bible Class continues our summer journey through the Minor Prophets and this Sunday we're going through the book of Habakkuk. I encourage you to read it ahead of time. Looking forward to another great Sunday! See you then, Dr. Dave
