God's Messiah, Isaiah 11:1-2

December 25, 2011 Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: Advent Sermons

Topic: Sermons Passage: Isaiah 11:1–11:2

Isaiah chapter 11 starts with the prophet declaring that the Lord would bring a shoot or a branch from the root of Jesse, even though all around it was burned away.  Since Israel was going to be conquered and scattered, this was the hope of David's line continuing and finding its fulfillment in a man who would have the Spirit of wisdom and the fear of the Lord upon him.  Eventually the prophecy combines the 1st and 2nd comings of Christ for a compelling look at what Christ would bring with His coming kingship.
