Genesis 4 opens with great hope- two sons are born to Adam and Eve. However, as Cain offered an unacceptable sacrifice to God and was angry at God for rejecting it, he took his brother's life. God's punishment, as it was with Adam and Eve, is mixed with grace- Cain will be a wanderer all his days but he would be protected from anyone seeking to kill him. Hebrews 12 reminds us that Jesus' blood "speaks a better word (forgiveness) than the blood of Abel (condemnation)."
