The final song of Christmas is from the lips of Simeon, an old man who had been promised by God that he would see the Christ before he died. When Jesus was presented for purification in the temple, Simeon held the child and announced that Jesus would be God's salvation and a light of revelation for both Israel and the Gentiles (he also told Mary that her soul would be pierced). The prophetess, Anna, was also there rejoicing about the child, having fasted and prayed for decades.
